April 17th - Jack

Well, last night poor Jack had to go potty twice and the stools were loose again, still grey.  I think I fed him too much and feel so bad he is so hungry.  Blood sugar was pretty good this morning, 75.  Could not check urine since he would stop flow whenever I came with the cup.  Had 3 enzyme capsules left this morning so gave 8 nuggets and also 2 units of insulin.  Will check him again at noon.

April 16th for Jack

Well Jack's blood sugar went back up during the night, at 295 this morning.  No spillover in the urine.  Gave 3 units of insulin.  At noon blood sugar was at 85, urine neg.  1700...BG 133 UA neg

Stool has improved greatly.  Backed off one capsule at noon feeding and around 1600 his stool was well formed at start and loose at end.  Went back to 5 caps at 1700 feeding.  all 3 feedings were 10 cubes.  He is so hungry, poor baby.  Going to check his blood glucose around 7-8 tonight.

Second day for Jack

Well Jack has thrown in  a surprise for us.  No glucose in his urine this morning. His morning meal of 10 cubes BARF and 4 enzyme capsules and 6 Units of insulin. at 0630 04/15/2011. 2 hrs later I drew blood and he had a blood glucose of 60.  Talked with Randy and stopping insulin for the rest of today and will monitor urine glucose and restick him tonight and tomorrow morning for blood glucose levels.  Also, his poo looked a bit better and Little One did not want it for a morning snack!  Hopefully he is stabilizing metabolically and all he will need will be enzymes in his food.  Way to go Jack!!

Jack's Second meal

Jack is looking for more food and is more alert and active.  His stool still looks bad but I didn't expect a total turn around with one dosage of enzymes.

2045 - 9 cubes of food and 4 capsules of enzymes.  6 units of insulin.  Still passing 3+ glucose in urine.

Jack's Journey

Jack, a poor puppy that is trying to survive.  He was diagnosed today with EPI and diabetes.  At 5 months old he has struggled so hard to survive his whole life.  I took him in a foster the day he was scheduled to be EU'd due to URI infection and he just would not eat.  We made it through the URI, gained weight and then about 10 days ago he began to lose weight.  He lost approximately 15 lbs in this time frame and is currently 24lbs.

Today is his first day with medications for his condition.  I am going to make this brief but want to keep a record of what we are doing and hopefully his progress.

1540 - 3 capsules of enzymes with 9 cubes of raw diet food.
Urine Glucose - 3+
6 units of insulin given at 1602

Unable to get blood for a blood glucose test.  Have to figure out where and how to stick him to use the glucose meter.  Tried his ears, nope, his neck, nope.  He is resting now and will try again after he gets up.
